Essential information: essential fatty acids are indispensable to the human body but the body is not able to synthesize them. Consequently, just as with vitamins and minerals, it is only through diet that we can meet the need for these substances correctly. From this point of view, it is understandable that taken as a whole essential fatty acids are also know as vitamin F.

Chemically, essential fatty acids are polyunsaturates (double bonds are present) and mainly belong to two series: omega-3 (Eicosapentaenoic acid: EPA; docosahexaenoic acid :DHA) and omega-6 (linoleic acid: LA), conjugated linoleic acid: CLA; gamma linolenic acid: GLA).

The product contains (1000mg/capsule) a safflower seed oil derivative (Carthamus tinctorius) that has the trade name CLARINOL^TM A-80, particularly rich in conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), and that forms approximately 80% of the weight. Chemically conjugated linoleic acid is a mixture of several isomers such as c9, t11 and t10, c12, forms present in equal measure, that make up over 90% of the CLA.

Essential fatty acids play a multiplicity of functions in the human body. They form part of all cell membranes (plastic functions) and are particularly abundant in the central and peripheral nervous system where they tend to decrease with ageing. Numerous studies have associated the decrease in essential fatty acids with the onset of nervous system dysfunctions (e.g. memory loss, visual acuity, etc.). What is more, metabolically essential fatty acids are precursors of prostaglandin, prostacyclin, thromboxanes, and leukotriens. Deficiency in essential fatty acids can therefore create important imbalances in the body’s functions.

In particular, the assumption of CLA has various health benefits for the immune and cardiovascular system, as well as for the bones in the body. CLA produces results in sports because it “addresses” or “distributes” the macronutrients assumed that increases lean mass (muscle mass) to the detriment of fatty tissue. This effect is even more marked if it is associated with a balanced diet and regular physical activity.

It is important to remember that the raw materials containing CLA such as sunflower and safflower oil derivatives must be obtained using bland extraction processes and in rigorous cold conditions. This reduces the yield (unfortunately increasing the price) but the product’s properties remain unchanged. Extraction in hot conditions and/or using solvents have high yields but irreversibly change the final product’s properties with toxic products possibly forming. CLARINOL^TM A-80 is a very high quality safflower oil derivative that is produced in the European Union. It is obtained by bland extraction processes, in cold conditions, and is both rigorously standardised and patented.

SPORT. This supplement is good for increasing lean mass at the expense of fatty tissue.

Dosage: 3 capsules a day before main meals.

EVERDAY LIFE. A useful supplement for fatty tissue loss in prolonged hypocalorific and hypolipidic diets. Useful for people suffering from hypercholesterolemy and hyperlipidemy.

Dosage: 2 capsules a day before main meals.

 

Warnings. To use the product correctly, it is recommended that the package is stored out of direct light and at temperatures below 25 °C. This precaution is required by the relatively easy oxidation of polyunsaturated fatty acids. To improve the product’s stability, vitamin E (E306) has been added to its oils as vitamin E is noted for its antioxidant/antiradical properties.
