Health food supplement preparation based on pure VITARGO® in powder form

Carbohydrates represent the main source of energy for the human body. This substance is particularly suited to sports environments where good performances can result from balanced carbohydrate support in the diet. The attention of sports medicine used to be focussed on three carbohydrates: glucose (dextrose), fructose, and maltodextrin. Glucose and fructose are simple carbohydrates (monsaccharides) easily absorbed after assumption in solution. Maltodextrins are a family of complex carbohydrates (polysaccharides) fundamentally characterised by being composed of glucose chains of varying lengths. Absorption of maltodextrin after its assumption in solution is less immediate than simple carbohydrates and varies according to the length of the chains.
Assumption of glucose is indicated when an unexpected fall in energy (hypoglycemia) occurs in the final phases of races or long training sessions. Since this sugar has a high glycemic index (the glycemia increases exponentially), the athlete can experiment with a transitory state of well-being followed by a phase of weakness due to reactive hypoglycemia. In other words, the unexpected increase in glycemia due to glucose causes an insulinaemic response in order to bring the glycemia back to its normal level. However, insulin tends to bring glycaemia back below the normal level, causing reactive hypoglycemia. This results in the athlete’s performance deteriorating whenever he or she still has not finished the exercise.
Fructose and maltodextrin are absorbed more slowly and increase glycemia due to their more bland action. High peaks of glycemia are not reached. The athlete can therefore use these sugars to re-supply energy without suffering damaging insulinaemic responses. Fructose and maltodextrin can be assumed both before and during performance without “danger”. This characteristic has resulted in widespread diffusion of fructose and maltodextrin in sports environments.
What novelty does VITARGO® introduce into sport?
Let us immediately say that VITARGO® is a complex carbohydrate with a high molecular weight (500,000-700,000 dalton). It belongs to the family of amides and as one of these it is formed of simple chains (amylose) and ramifications of glucose (amylopectin). The specific method of its preparation is patented and its launch in sports was caused by several clinical studies carried out at the prestigious Karolinska Institute in Stockholm. The most interesting data shows that after ingestion this carbohydrate passes through the small intestine much more quickly than common maltodextrins. Its absorption causes a balanced and enduring rise in glycemia (without causing undesirable insulinaemic responses). However, the most interesting thing about VITARGO® is its ability to compensate for the loss of muscular glycogen after prolonged and intense exercise. Glycogen is the most important “fuel” available to muscles. After intensive effort, muscular glycogen also falls by 95% of its initial amount, and total recovery does not normally happen in less than 48 hours.More than any other carbohydrate tested, VITARGO® reduces the time it takes to recover. Its use is particularly important in prolonged exercise in stages and in any situation in which faster recovery makes the athlete ready to exercise on the following day.

dosage:depends on the energy needs and the degree of muscular glycogen depletion resulting from the exercise. 75 – 100 gr of the product normally produce the desired effect. pure VITARGO can be used pure or blended with other nutrients and/or dietary supplement, and is helpful when preparing energy drinks. Three measures of the product (25 gr) are dissolved in a shaker in 100 ml of water or low fat milk. After shaking vigorously for a few seconds, a gelatinous blend with a moderately sweetish taste results. Sweeten or flavour as required.
